BioMedWeek 2025 is an annual event organized by Year 1 and Year 2 Undergraduate students in Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science (Hons) and endorsed by IMU University Society of Biomedical Science (ISBS). This year, we are proud to host BioMedWeek 2025 where we celebrate innovation, collaboration, and the dynamic field of biomedical science. The theme of this event is “Microbiology: From Cells to Systems”. The event combines academic rigor with hands-on engagement. Highlights include academic webinars featuring distinguished speakers such as Dr Sarah Pitt (Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) UK) and Dr Chong Chun Wie (Gut Microbiome Studies – Monash University Malaysia), a Kimchi-Making Workshop focusing on the importance of Probiotics, and BioBazaar, a fundraiser catered to students and staff in IMU.
This year, BioMedWeek 2025 also features an extensive poster competition for secondary school students on “Microbes in Gastrointestinal Tract Infections”. Participants will create A3-sized posters addressing topics such as the structure and function of the gastrointestinal tract, microbial pathogens and their routes of entry, the effects of GI infections, and preventive or treatment measures. The competition aims to inspire an interest in microbiology, foster skills in scientific communication, and encourage independent research into the relevance of microbes in health. Submissions will be judged by academic professionals based on scientific accuracy, creativity, clarity, and visual appeal, with cash prizes and certificates awarded to top entries.
