It had been a rough day foff r me. I faff iled my science test, my frff iends made fuff n

of me, and on top of all that, I had to look aftff er a mere child who still thinks she is
             a princess.

Lily grabbed another piece of Lego and started fiff dgeting with it, then took
another one and stuck them together, making a cross. “An aeroplane!” she

exclaimed. I stared at the ‘aeroplane’, feff d up with her nonsense, “That is not aann
aeroplane.” She shot me a dirty look and walked towards the window, staring out
into the garden. I stood up and joined her.

I sat on the windowsill, bored. “What are you watching?” I asked. She pointed

towards a nest of baby birds I had not noticed befoff re. “They’re playing and
singing, they look so happy!” “So what?” I sighed and asked. “There isn’t
anything special, is there?” She turned to me, her jaw dropped, her eyes fiff lled with

betrayal. “Doesn't that make you happy? I wish I could be among them, humming
to whatever tune they sing that is then carried by the breeze, spread to the entire
             world!”

“They are just birds,” I simply shrugged, “They sing all the time, they aren't
that special.” Lily frff owned slightly, her hands still fiff dgeting with her Lego

aeroplane. “What else is there to love? Isn’t that the joy in lifeff ? To be able to smile
at little things that make you happy?”

I paused as I took in her words. I had been feff eling nothing but hatred that
day, my negative emotions swelled up in my stomach, thinking everything was

depressing, that nothing could cheer me up; yet, there she was smiling dumbly at
             birds.

Lifeff does not always go your way, but yoou can fi ff nd a way to go through it.
Think positive – see the world through a child’s eyes. You can see that there’s no

point in being sad or angry aftff er a long while, and that all the small little things
around you can make you smile. That is the joy in lifeff .
