Academic Societies:
Cross-Society Activities

To strengthen the bond and
understanding between students across
different societies, a group of CHKL students
has decided to host a cross-society activity
on the 10th of June. There were a total of 7
societies that participated, and needless to say,
our passion and unity made the event a very
huge success. A lot of students managed to
grasp some key concepts on how other societies
are run, as well as enjoy the activities that
the esteemed committees of the participating
societies have planned.
The English Language Society hosted a
game-based activity called Merriment Myriad,
during which the students played all sorts of
board games, such as UNO!, Monopoly
and Scrabble. The purpose of this activity
was to enhance the students’ brainpower by
brainstorming different strategies to win.

Apart from the English Language
Society, the Japanese Society based their entire
activity on a summer festival, known locally as
The Bon Odori Festival. They combined a mix
of music, Japanese culture and dances so that
the students can experience a summer festival
without even having to book a plane ticket.
The Chinese Debate Society, however,
provided all participants with the experience
of being in a debate while boosting their
self-confidence and their ability to express
their points of view. Students learned debate
techniques through entertaining station games
and were able to redeem prizes prepared by
the committee. Many participants were quite
competitive which made the entire activity even
more exhilarating.
Putting debates aside, the Legal
Knowledge Society created a murder mystery
for the students to solve. Participants were
tasked to search for clues and interrogate
the suspects to solve the case. Not only that,
this activity also facilitated an opportunity
for students to cultivate an interest towards
lawsuits and case solving, in case they
want to be detectives in the future.
Furthermore, the Geography
Society hosted an interesting activity
that consisted of painting paper fans.
This painting method originated in
Turkey, and locals call this method
wet rubbing. The purpose of this
activity is to introduce different
countries’ cultures to the students and this
fateful day, Turkey was chosen as their main
theme.
