Interviews with students Ethan Lim, a student from 1 Lian, shared that hanging out with
In celebration of our school’s 105th anniversary, we interviewed a few students to gather
their insights and reflections on their time at CHKL. Their responses highlight the importance of
extracurricular activities, memorable experiences, inspiring teachers, and school traditions that
foster unity.
During the interview process, we learnt that co-curricular activities
can have a significant impact on a student’s life at school.
For one, Chong Carson from 2 Ping thinks that co-curricular
activities have helped him a lot in relieving the stress from studying,
and he was able to meet new people and make new friends. Carson
also shared valuable memories from his time in school, such as
obtaining good marks in examinations, participating in PE classes,
among other exciting activities.
We met many teachers and mentors throughout our time in
school.
Tan Yi Lin from 5C Zhong is certain that Madam Lim Shin
Nee has had an influential impact on her. She said that Madam Lim
is easy to talk to, and after being taught by her, her Sejarah grade
improved, allowing her to pass the exam after three years of failing it.
Yi Lin also mentioned the Interdisciplinary Learning Programme that
the school implemented last year. The programme trained her patience and precision in doing
things when she participated in a carving rubber stamp course. On top of learning new skills, she
also found the course fun.
During our school life, we all have memorable experiences that we are fond of.
For instance, Ku Rui Qing, who is from 2 Li, mentioned that
CHKL's Jogathon was an unforgettable experience that shaped
her life at school. It was fun and memorable because she had the
opportunity to enjoy the event with her friends.

his classmates is one of his fondest memories. After a tiring day of
studying, spending time with his friends helped to recharge his
depleting energy with positive energy, thanks to the funny and joyful
events that he shared with his friends during the day.
At CHKL, students also participate in competitions that were
held either on school grounds or off school grounds where we win
prizes that we are very proud of.
Chan Weng Yee from 5C Zhong was happy to share that one
of the proudest prizes she earned was winning the Best Popularity
Award in a national Chinese calligraphy competition. Many people
voted online, and she received the most votes out of all contestants.
She also talked about the changes in CHKL over these five
years. One of the most significant changes, she noted, was replacing
Saturday courses with the Interdisciplinary Learning Program, making
Saturdays at school more interesting.
During an interview with a student, we also learned that school tradition has firmly fostered
unity and belonging among Chong Hwa students.
Ng Yi Jie, from 2 Lian, shared her point of view. She suggested
that school traditions, including speeches about Chinese heritage
and culture, bring us closer together. Knowing how our ancestors
fought for our rights to study in our mother tongue strengthens our
bond.
By interviewing various students, we gain deeper insights into their school life and
perspectives. Over the past five years, our school has achieved new milestones and made
remarkable improvements in every aspect. We believe that Chong Hwa will continue to advance to
greater heights and create an even better learning environment for students.
