guidance as it was my first time participating
in a debate competition,” she said. The
seniors would be willing to join in future
debate activities if they have the chance to do
so.
The judges for the senior group, Ms
Teng and alumna Ms Dorothy Ng were
pleased with the proficiency of the debaters.
They advised the debaters to have more eye
contact and emotion during the presentation
to have an emotional connection with the
audience. Gestures and body language are
also important to get the audience involved.
For the junior group, our school teachers, Ms
Sak and Ms Lo were invited to be the
adjudicators. They commented on each
individual’s performance, followed by a quick
summary on some tips to help highlight one’s
stand. “Don’t just repeat the meaning of a
word, have a situation or example to help you
with it.” Apart from that, they mentioned that
the debaters should make good use of the
time given and try to not pause so frequently.
