范能平教授
Prof Huang is a Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Xiamen University Malaysia since April 2017. Prior to this, he served University of Malaya as an Assistant Professor from 2009-2017. Prof. Huang’s research interest is fabrication of graphene and graphene-based nanocomposites.
Prof. Huang was awarded the National Young Scientist 2012 Award by the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation Malaysia, MASS Young Scientist 2012 Award by the Malaysia Association of Solid States, UM Young Researcher 2012 Award by University of Malaya and Malaysia Rising Star Award by Ministry of Higher Education 2016.
Currently, Prof Huang holds the position of the Head of Department of New Energy Science & Engineering in Xiamen University of Malaysia.
His research focused on the fabrication of graphene based materials for electrical energy storage application. Various types of graphene such as graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, graphene nanoplatelets and their composites were explored for the energy storage application. These energy storage devices include supercapacitor, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), supercapattery and aluminium ion battery.
Graphene is used to replace the conventional anode material (graphite) to enhance its energy density and power density. Graphene is also used to enhance the conductivity of cathode materials of LIBs. Furthermore, graphene can be used to improve the conductivity of the binder materials such as PVDF for enhanced performance.
Prof Huang’s group also investigating the recycling of the energy storage devices as the disposal of these waste will determine the sustainability of the electric energy storage devices and its application. Currently, Prof Huang and his group is working to produce prototype of small electrical vehicle powered by solar panel for higher sustainability.
