Hiroshima University is a national institution founded in 1949, selected as one of the Top Global University Projects by the Ministry of Education in 2014. This 10-year (2014 to 2024) project aiming to enhance the international compatibility and competitiveness of higher education in Japan. With 12 schools and graduate schools, research facilities and affiliated hospitals, HU continues to take on worldwide challenges, strengthening its global education network.
Requirement: Successful applicants who possess a nationality other than Japanese and have Ryugaku (留学) student visas, including those who have initiated the application process are eligible for the 1st-year IGS Scholarship.
Award: JPY 300,000 (One Time Award
A few selected outstanding applicants will be recommended for the Japanese Government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) scholarship (University Recommendation).
Eligibility: Not living or studying in Japan / Success in IGS admissions for April 2021 intake / High academic performance in the previous education institution / Under 24 years old at the time of enrollment
Application: Candidates will be contacted by the IGS Office in December.
Award: Monthly allowance of JPY 117,000 (As of April, 2020) / Full waiver of all school fees / Air ticket to and from Japan
Term: Four years
Applicants who are not residing in Japan and will come to Japan to enroll in IGS will have an opportunity to apply for the Reservation Program for Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students by Pre-arrival Admission (University Recommendation).
Eligibility: Not living/studying in Japan / Success in IGS admissions for April 2021 intake / High academic performance in the previous education institution

Award: Monthly allowance of JPY 48,000 (As of April, 2020)
Term: One year
Scholarship established with donations from individuals within and without Hiroshima University. Grantees are selected by inner selection from individual applications.
Monthly Stipend: 30,000yen
Duration: 6 months

About 40 private organizations provide scholarships to privately funded international students. Each year, approximately 250 students receive the grants. These scholarships are only for the self-funded students already enrolled in Hiroshima University. Applicants for university enrollment are ineligible to apply. Students who wish to apply for this kind of scholarship must submit application according to the application guide of each organization.
Eligibility: Resident Status “Student”. Other eligibilities vary according to organizations.
Duration: Varies from one year to regular period of years need to complete a course.
Monthly Amount: Varies from 20,000 yen to 180,000 yen.
Period of Applications: From July the year before to June of the year you want to receive the
scholarship.
